The Frenchman Henry Chardon was a A.F.A. member. In 1920 he developed a fully automatic device for kite aerial photography. His system used a messenger that climbed along the kiteline by mean of one square sail. A few moments before starting the messenger, two fuses, of different lenght, were lit.
After the messenger had reached the end of his run, the two fuses burning in sequence, activated the shutter first, and, after a few moments, the sail release device. Once the sail was released, the messenger was free to slide alog the cable once again but, this time toward the ground. The whole process could then be started again.
